DESCRIPTION:Join HERO for a Spring Cleaning Day at the Lodge\, open to all community members! This is a great opportunity to see the HERO Lodge up close while helping us get ready for the season ahead. \nVolunteers will help with a variety of projects\, including deep cleaning inside the lodge\, organizing old containers and storage bins\, sprucing up outdoor areas\, planting flowers\, and general cleanup around the property. Be prepared to get a little dirty as we work together to make the lodge beautiful inside and out. \nLight snacks\, refreshments\, and lunch will be provided. After the work is done\, you’re welcome to stay\, relax\, and gather around the fire if you’d like. \n🕘 Come anytime between 9:00 AM and sunset—you don’t need to stay all day. Any amount of time you can give is greatly appreciated! \n👉 Please feel out our online volunteer form so we can capture any specific skills\, trades\, areas of interest  by May 7th\, so we can plan accordingly.  \nSign up

DESCRIPTION:This opportunity is available exclusively to current active military members and veterans who are Iowa residents. \nHealing at English River Outfitters (HERO) is honored to host the PFC Larry Harding Vietnam Veteran Memorial Fishing Trip at Lake Rathbun May 22\, 2026 through May 24\, 2026. \nThis special day is dedicated to honoring the service and sacrifice of Vietnam Veterans while providing a meaningful opportunity for connection\, camaraderie\, and time on the water. Veterans selected for this trip will enjoy a guided fishing experience\, fellowship with fellow veterans\, and a day focused on relaxation and community. \nThe trip includes: Lodging\, Meals and Fishing boat. No prior fishing experience is required\, if fishing gear is needed plus let the fishing coordinator know upon selection. \nFour (4) veterans will be selected by drawing on May 9\, 2026.\nTo ensure we are able to serve as many individuals as possible\, priority will be given to veterans who have not previously attended a HERO fishing trip. This experience is designed to provide active-duty service members and Iowa veteran residents with a restorative\, mission-free environment built around fishing\, fellowship\, and time to reset. \nThe trip includes: Lodging\, meals\, multiple days of inshore\, at least one (1) day off offshore fishing with the founder (weather and sea conditions permitting)\, peer support and dedicated downtime. No gear or fishing experience is required. \nThis opportunity is available exclusively to current active military members and veterans who are Iowa residents. \nOne participant will be selected by drawing on April 30\, 2026. \nSelected participants will be contacted with additional details regarding travel coordination\, packing recommendations\, and trip logistics. \nWe are honored to create opportunities that strengthen connection\, restore perspective\, and serve those who serve. \nSign-up here!
